SFU Fencing Team Wins 6 Gold Medals and 3 Silver Medals in National Collegiate Fencing Championships

 

The 20th National Collegiate Fencing Championships was held at Hefei University recently. 33 collegiate teams across the country including regions of Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan and around 630 athletes, coaches, team leaders and judges participated in the Championshipsthe Chinese call is as “Competition of Huashan Mountain” among undergraduates. During the event, SFU’s athletes achieved a perfect scores of 6 gold medalss,3 silvermedals, and 10 bronzes medals through their valiant struggling and unremitting efforts. Besides, SFU fencing team was also granted “Sportsmanship Award”.


WANG Gang, full-time Vice Chairman of the Federations of University Sports of China and GAO Weiling, Inspector of Anhui Provincial Sport Bureau were present at the opening ceremony. LU Haibo, Chairman of Fencing Branch under the ederations of University Sports of China and Vice Secretary SFU’s Party Committee, WU Chunmei, Vice Mayor of Hefei City delivered a speech respectively at the opening ceremony. Jiang Chun, vice secretary of Education Working Committee under Anhui Provincial Party Committee announced the opening of the event.


LU Haibo, on behalf of Fencing Branch under the Federations of University Sports of China conveyed his congratulations to the successfulholding of the event. He noted that this championships was the largest over the past years and was also the first time to be held in Hefei. He express his thankfulness to Hefei University for its all the inputs in people, material and finance and preparation of the event by heart, emotion and effort and hoped all the participating teams can strengthen the exchange, enhance the level and popularize the event, learn from each other and further promote the development of fencing cause in universities.

The event has improved the technical and tactic level of SFU’s fencing team, inspired the team members’ enthusiasm to fencing sports and enhanced the friendship among universities.
